Aloha my name is Kainoa Lum, born and raised on the island of Kaua’i. Growing up around the ocean I developed a passion for fishing, free diving, and wave riding. Following high school I travelled the world to boogieboard waves that i’ve seen in videos as a grom. In 2009 I became an Ocean Safety Officer and, a Rescue Craft Operator for the Kaua’i Fire Departments Ocean Safety Bureau which suited my ocean loving lifestyle. In 2021 I became a firefighter for Kaua’i Fire Department, which would allow me to help my community but also have a schedule that would allow me the time for my passion of wood working.

A passion for woodworking became prominent in 2015 after my wife and I built our first home together. Wanting to build custom furniture and accessories for our home prompted me to explore possibilities with utilizing Hawaiian grown hardwoods, and especially their unique live edges. Fast forward to 2020, I was asked by good friend and renowned gyotaku artist, Desmond Thain, to frame one of his original premium prints. The finished product was well received, inspiring continued creativity and the establishment of K.Lum Woodworks.
