Shou Sugi Ban

An 18th century Japanese technique also known as Yakisugi. A technique which uses fire to slightly char the surface of the wood without burning the entire piece of wood. It’s then cleaned with a wire brush and sealed with a natural oil to preserve its charred look. This process is known to protect it against insects, as well as making it fire retardant and waterproof.
